Mangaluru, Dec 19: Vehicle owners have found a way to save on toll fee in addition to using the earlier plan of using inner roads to avoid tollgates on highways and then reaching the highway through other roads. In the FASTag regime, they are trying ways and means to save money. One of them is using FASTag meant for light vehicles for heavy vehicles.
In Suratkal tollgate alone, 15 such cases were detected, and the staff have drawn the attention of the national highways authority of India about this misuse. If the incidents recur, they propose to deactivate the FASTag in which case, the balance held there will go waste.
Over a hundred FASTag were distributed at the booth at Suratkal on Wednesday. While 15 such cases were detected at Suratkal, one case was found at Brahmarakootlu. The Sastan toll staff said they could not exercise control over such incidents and propose to take strict action henceforth. Those manning Hejamady tollgate said they have not come across such misuse.
As per the demand of leaders, a lane was exclusively reserved for local vehicles on Wednesday. Therefore the rush eased and there were no problems at Sastan tollgate.
