Bengaluru, Dec 18: Even though the government extended the time given to fix FASTag to their vehicles to January 15 and exempted penal payment of charges till then, the problem continues to bother the road users. There is inordinate delay in FASTag ordered online reaching the users.
It is said that in several toll gates, the staff do not have information about the extension of time. Therefore, they have been collecting double the normal rate for vehicles without FASTag.
Union department of surface transport and highways has provided for acquiring FASTag online through national highway authority counters, select 22 banks, PayTM, Amazon, Flipkart and other online sites. Still, people find that FASTag bought online reach them with late, giving rise to problems.
It is said that in Mysuru, FASTag vehicles could pass without being charged for want of reading machines.
It is said that there has been a decrease in the number of people approaching the counters set up at toll plazas to get FASTag. Initially, there was rush to buy FASTag but it has since eased, said in-charge supervisors at some toll gates.
The toll plazas have done away with the practice of issuing daily and monthly passes after the introduction of FASTag system. This has become problematic for vehicles which pass through the same toll plazas multiple times in a day.
