Mangaluru, Dec 18: Prohibitory orders were imposed in the city commissionerate limits from Wednesday, December 18, till December 20, due to likelihood of disruption to public peace and order.

In the wake of rumours about planned demonstrations against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) in parts of Dakshina Kannada district, prohibitory orders will be in force from 9 pm today till the midnight of December 20, an official release quoting Mangaluru police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha said.

    Commissioner Saheb, humble request, kindly extend prohibitory orders atleast upto the first week of January.... impose total dry days, to prevent any misadventure, by paid mercenaries to create rampant destruction, in the entire coastal belt of Dakshin Kannada district......

    Excellent step by the Police Commissioner of Mangalore City. He clearly explained how some people misused the situation and came in the way of smooth functioning of the city without taking any permission. All citizens welcome this step.

    All protests start peacefully. Then they turn out of control, leading to damage to public property. Who will be responsible for this damage and who will pay for that? For this, security deposit may be collected from those leaders who apply for permission to conduct "peaceful protest".
