Udupi: One Step skill lab, e-prescription facility inaugurated at Kasturba Hospital Manipal

Udupi, Dec 17: One step Skill Lab and E Prescription facility was inaugurated at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, on Tuesday, December 17, by the MD & CEO of Manipal Health Enterprises.

In order to deploy and depute skilled nurses to required health care is a big challenge today. To mitigate this challenge to some extent, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal created the state of the art Skill Lab dedicated to Nursing Department for assessment and Skill Development called ONE STEP, (One Site Nursing Education for Skills Techniques, Engagement and Process Enhancement). Depending on the Basic Skill Score the Nursing administration can decide the deployment and deputation of Nurses to the required Health care delivery system in the Hospital. This will also enable the Nursing Administration to develop skilled Nurses and Skill Matrix System in future. This Skill Lab is aided by the indigenously developed Software the NURSING EVALUATION SOFTWARE FOR SKILLS AND TECHNIQUES in short called NESST.

After inauguration, Dilip Jose said, “Nurses are the backbone of Manipal Hospital System, they are the first to come and last to go in any hospital. Back bone is very important for any activity like that Nurses also very important back bone for patient care. This is the best initiative of Management towards the patient centricity and excellence in patient care”. And he also inaugurated the E-Prescription facility. “With the help of this patient can avoid long queues in the pharmacy in an effort to build Patient Centricity in KH,” he added.

Guest of honour of the programme, Dr Anil Bhat, associate dean of KMC Manipal, released the Manual of Nursing skill lab and said, “As there are many competencies for Medical education, there is a competencies for nursing education also. This is the best platform for the enhancement of competencies and it should be an ongoing process. This will be a value added experience for nurses.”

The COO of Kasturba Hospital C G Muthana, medical superintendent Dr Avinash Shetty were present. Deena Prabhavathi, nursing superintendent of Kasturba Hospital Manipal, welcomed the gathering and DNS Chitra proposed the vote of thanks.
