Mangaluru, Dec 17: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, said that Karavali Utsav will be held in the city from January 3 onward. He was speaking after presiding over the preparatory meeting for Karavali Utsav at the auditorium of the city corporation here on Monday December 16.

Poojary noted that the Utsav is being organized at Karavali Utsav ground and Kadri Park. He asked officials to ensure that true and sublime culture, art, folklore and sports of coastal region are depicted during these festivities.

"All kinds of tableaux and cultural teams from all over Karnataka which showcase rich culture of the state accompany the procession on the opening day. As the procession reflects the success of Karavali Utsav, we should make sure that this programme is effective. The plan about the procession should be decided and finalized in consultation with Tulu, Beary and Konkani Sahitya Academies along with district Kannada Sahitya Parishad," he said.

On the concluding three days of Karavali Utsav, Beach Utsav will be held at Panambur beach. This time, international kite festival will be an added attraction. The minister asked the Beach Utsav sub-committee to make preparations for bringing international kites and their flyers to the city. Noting that concreting of road between the national highway and beach is under progress, he asked New Mangalore Port Trust officials to complete the works and allow traffic to move on the road by January 5.

Poojary noted that the Utsav ground is now not enough to house enough stalls and programmes. He asked the district administration to take a decision about holding the Utsav in the entire ground.

MLAs Vedavyas Kamath and Umanath Kotian, zilla panchayat president Meenakshi Shantigodu, district in-charge secretary Ponnuraj, deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, presidents of different academies Dayanand Kattalsar, Rahim Uchil, Jagadish Pai and district Kannada Sahitya Parishad president Pradeep Kuar Kalkura were present.
