Udupi, Dec 16: The annual Sports Meet of Nirmala English Medium School was held on November 21 and 22 at the school premises.
The programme commenced with a prayer song by the school choir. On the first day of the sports meet, the chief guest was Bhujang Shetty T P O Brhamavar, president of the day, Fr Victor Fernandes OFM capuchin, correspondent of Nirmala School, principle, Fr Joslie Francis D'Silva OFM capuchin, president of PTA committee, Veeranna S Raviprakash Gonsalves, member of the school management committee and other guests who took the salute of the impressive march past of the students, coupled with some thrilling marching music by the band.
The sports day was inaugurated by the chief guest. Sr Celine introduced the chief guest and delivered the welcome address. The chief guest while addressing the students said that for the holistic development of the individual, it is very important to have co-curricular and extra-curricular activities along with the curricular activities. He advised the students to make the best use of the facilities provided by the school management. The president of the day graced this occasion.
The event commenced with the hoisting of the flag by the chief guest. The oath was administrated by Primal of class 10 and the students solemnly pledged to uphold the spirit of true sportsmanship. Just after the oath, the flags were planted, chief guest declared the meet open, followed by lighting of the torch. The flying start was given to the athletic meet by the torch bearers taking a Mashall of the ground with the torch and lighting the caldron of the sports meet.
Soon after, a well coordinated mass drill was carried out by the students of various groups. The judges for the day for the mass drill were eminent and experienced sportsmaster, Dolwin D'Souza, Krishna Naik, and Praveen. The green group received maximum points and took away the best mass drill trophy. The morning session concluded with an inspiring and motivating speech by the correspondent followed by the vote of thanks by Deena Fernades.
The track and field event included a number of races such as 50 mtr, 100 mtr, 200 mtr, 400 mtr and 4*100 mtr relay races for the different categories. The judges guided all the sports events of the day with their fair and unbiased judgment. They patiently followed the rules of the games and track events. Each and every teacher was involved in conducting the events of the day.
In the post lunch session, students of senior school competed in various track and field events. The school playground rimmed with flags with the sound of cheers made everyone’s day. The full day commentary was given by Kavitha Sanil. The sports meet of 2019-20 was indeed a memorable day.
