Mangaluru, Dec 16: “Fr Alexander followed some principles in his life which later became very popular among the people who knew him. Being an educationalist, he made a revolution in village education. Wherever he went he built school and related educational institutions and tried to bring a positive transformation in society. Due to this, people saw him as a social reformer,” said Fr Alwyn Serrao, principal of Padua College.
Fr Serrao was giving memorial lecture on Fr Alexander Lobo, known educationalist and social reformer, on his memorial day, held at Vailankanni ward, Fr Muller hospital in the city on Monday, December 16. Fr Serrao further said, “Fr Alexander always gave preference to the poor and exploited. He had humanity-filled heart. The students and people who knew him closely still remember his working style, especially his efforts on educating the poor and taking them out of poverty. Being a disciplined priest he always stood for service. He was helped many to construct houses with the money received by him at the time of house blessings of some rich people.
“Fr Alexander is a role model to all of us. He lived like a hero of the needy, exploited and depressed. He took special interest to give a new life to alcoholic edicts. Many of them now live a decent life and have become known personalities in society for positive things.”
In his speech Fr Rudolf said, “It is very good move from Fr Alexander’s family to organize a day in his memory. I am thankful to them for choosing Vailankanni ward for their programme and a special lecture for alcoholics, who are admitted in the ward."
Fr Nelson Dheeraj Pais, assistant administrator, Father Muller Medical College Hospital, Bharath Shetty, Patric Colaco and Santhosh D’Souza were present.
