Bengaluru, Dec 16: The state Congress party seems to be unsettled after the recent debacle in the assembly by-elections. It has been a week since both Siddaramaiah and Dinesh Gundu Rao have tendered resignations to their posts of leader of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) and president of KPCC respectively. However, the decision of Congress high command is still a highly-guarded secret.
The influential leaders of state Congress are in Delhi lobbying for the coveted positions in the state. However, it is learnt that Rahul Gandhi has spoken in a soft manner with Siddaramaiah. Rahul has also invited Siddaramaiah to Delhi, while he called on the latter to inquire about his health. This has really given rise to may raise eyebrows.
Though the contest for the vacated CLP and KPCC positions in the state of Karnataka are intense, the Congress high command has still not accepted the resignations of Siddaramaiah and Dinesh Gundu Rao. It is said that the high command will take a final decision only after speaking to Siddaramaiah in person in Delhi. There is every possibility that the aspirations of the root Congressmen may go for a toss. The reason for this is the chat that Rahul Gandhi had with Siddaramaiah. Rahul had spoken to Siddaramaiah on Saturday and it is gathered that Siddaramaiah has promised to meet Rahul in Delhi after a rest of around 10 to 15 days.
Rumours are also rife in party circles in Bengaluru that Siddaramaiah will also discuss the present political scenario in the state in detail with AICC president Sonia Gandhi. Even the acceptance of resignation of KPCC president Dinesh Gundu Rao will also to be decided after the meeting of Siddaramaiah with Rahul and Sonia.
Only time will tell whether there will be a setback for the aspirations of the root Congressmen who are on their toes to capture the vacated posts in the state Congress. It is true that intense activities are in progress among the top Congress leaders of the state.
