Mangaluru, Dec 14: The inauguration of the two-day national level workshop on the theme 'Physics of Toys' was held on December 13 at L F Rasquinha Hall.
This workshop was organized by the department of Physics, St Aloysius College (Autonomous) in association with IISER Pune. Dr Arun Isloor from NITK Surathkal inaugurated the workshop.
Fr Dionysius Vaz, SJ, rector, St Aloysius Institutions presided over the inaugural function.
Fr Dr Praveen Martis, SJ, principal, Dr Ronald Nazareth, co-ordinator of Star College Scheme, Dr Narayana Bhat and Shawn Ajay D’Souza, convenors, Lawrence Pinto, HOD of Physics, Dr John D’Silva, director of Xavier Block were present on the dais.
Dr Isloor narrated the importance of imagination and creativity. He stressed on the importance of applied research quoting examples of China. He said how China products rule the toy market. He explained how hard work and creativity can result in marketable products. He said such training is important for young children since they have an open mind and free-thinking.
Ashok Rupner from IISER Pune was the resource person and demonstrated and trained the participants to make toys from unused items and explained the physics behind its working.
Dr A M Narahari, registrar, Dr Alwyn D’Sa, controller of Examinations, deans, staff members, staff and students from various colleges participated in the inaugural programme.
Dr Narayana Bhat gave insights about the workshop. Dr Ronald Nazareth briefed about the facilities of the STAR College Scheme of DBT, Govt of India. Lawrence Pinto welcomed the gathering. Dr Chandrashekara Shetty introduced the chief guest. Shawn Ajay D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks.
