Kasargod, Dec 13: Bekal police have arrested three people of a family from Mysuru for allegedly cheating several people of Kerala and Karnataka to the tune of several crore of rupees after promising them visa of the United Kingdom (UK).
The arrested have been identified as Dennis Rodrigues (66), a resident of Puttur Padil and his children Veena (30) and Francis (22). The kingpin of this fraud, John B D'Souza (40), husband of Veena, is absconding, as per the information given by the police. It is said that they used to collect huge sums of money from people promising them employment visa of various companies based in the UK.
In August 2018, Tarunan, a resident of Bekal Pallikere had given Rs 8 lac to the accused for obtaining UK visa. When he did not get the visa in the assured time period, he grew suspicious and on inquiry came to know that the whole team was absconding. He then filed a complaint with the Bekal police.
During the interrogation, the cops learnt that the team of fraudsters had cheated people of Kasargod, Kannur and Ernakumlam of several crores of rupees in the period between 2017-2018.
In addition to Kerala, these fraudsters have conned several people in the state of Karnataka also. It is also known through investigation that the team used documents submitted for visas to buy SIM cards.
Police are investigating further.
