Udupi, Dec 13: An unidentified young man who was found to be roaming around Kukkikatte railway bridge and was found announcing his intention to end his life, was rescued by activists on Thursday, December 12.
Raghavendra Prabhu Karvalu, a social worker, saw the youth whose movements appeared suspicious. When he approached and questioned the stranger, he said that he was frustrated and hence had arrived there to kill himself. Raghavendra contacted other social workers, Nityananda Olakadu, and Taranath Mestha Shirur and narrated the incident. They came to near Kukkikatte railway bridge and rescued the youth. They found that the youth had not eaten since several days, and provided him food. Thereafter, they arranged for his stay at Karunya orphanage at Katapady here. Convener of the orphanage, Kumar, provided shelter with humanitarian consideration.
The youngster appears to be going through depression. He can speak in Konkani and Kannada, and has claimed himself to be from a family of Gowd Saraswat Brahmins. He holds an Adhar card in which the details given are Raghavendra Kamath (40), son of Hanumanth Kamath, P R Layout, Sheshadripuram, Bengaluru.
The youth is badly in need of psychiatric treatment. Organizations and institutions have to come forward to help him. His guardians are requested to immediately contact Karunya Orphanage at Katapady, Udupi district.
