Kasargod, Dec 13: The mortal remains of a woman who had been reported missing from her home, was found from a drain at Trikkannad near here.

Sharada (80), wife of K V Govindan, resident of Sharada Bhavan at Gopal Pete in Trikkannad had gone missing from her home on the night of November 29. Her relatives had filed complaint in Bekal police station with this regard. The police had registered a case of disappearance and had begun investigation.

After noticing that stinking smell was emanating from near this house, the family informed the police. The police arranged to remove the slabs covering the drain near the house and found decomposed body of Sharada. A torch was also found a little distance away.

After the police conducted inquest in the presence of Bekal police sub-inspector P Ajit Kumar, post-mortem of the body was conducted at Kannur government medical college hospital. The police said that the post-mortem report has mentioned that the lay died due to drowning.

Sharada lived with her daughter in this house. On the night of November 29, the daughter had become sick. Sharada, who was overwhelmed by this development, had hurriedly gone out of her house to call for help. The police suspect that she would have fallen in the drain on this occasion. The situation was compounded by the fact that it was raining then, and after falling into the drain, she would have been carried away by the force of flowing water under the slabs, the police said. They also believe that the lady would have been alive for six days in that condition and she would have died thereafter.
