Mangalore, Sep 8: The foundation stone for the Bajjodi chapel of Bendur parish and for the formation of the House of Secular Institute of Women in the Opus Spiritus Sancti (OSS), was laid by the Bishop of Mangalore diocese, Dr Aloysius Paul D’souza, at Bajjodi in the city on Tuesday September 8.
The long-awaited dream of the Catholics of Bajjodi has come true on the auspicious day of the Feast of the Nativity of Our Lady. Fr Peter Noronha, parish priest of St Sebastian’s Church, Bendur, welcomed the gathering. The Bishop, speaking on the occasion, hoped that this Chapel will help the faithful in their spiritual needs and appealed the faithful to collaborate with Fr Nelson Pinto OCD, who is the in-charge of this Chapel.
This Chapel, which is dedicated to Infant Mary, is entrusted to the Karnataka-Goa province of the Order of Discalced Carmelites. Fr Archibald Gonsalves, Provincial of Karnataka-Goa province of the Discalced Carmelites, proposed the vote of thanks. Aloysius D’souza conducted the proceedings. Mangalore City Corporation’s corporators, James, Naveen and Mariamma Thomas, Carmelite friars, nuns, Lidwin Sequeira OSS and the members of Opus Spiritus Sancti, engineer Lawrence Coutinha and a large crowd of faithfuls was present on this occasion.
