The rural station police personnel have arrested Hasainar. A case under the provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act stands registered against him.
The incident happened when the girl student was alone at home on December 8 as there was holiday for her school. Hasainar was aware that the mother of the girl goes out to work as coolie. He stealthily entered the girl's house on that afternoon when she was asleep on a sofa, and tried to satiate his sexual urge, it is said. When the girl wriggled out of his grip and raised an alarm, he ran away.

The girl had explained about the turn of events to her mother over phone but no complaint was made to the police as the family was apprehensive about the trouble the accused might create for the family members. The mother told the police that she conveyed about the incident to her elder daughter residing at Moodbidri on December 9 and at her advice, registered a case against the accused. The police arrested Hasainar thereafter and began investigation.
Vishwa Hindu Padishad (VHP) Puttur unit has condemned the incident. It said that Hasainar from Devinagara was involved with a number of illegal activities in the past, and hence urged the police and the court to award him harsh punishment. It also requested the lawyers not to represent the accused in the court.
Parishad's Puttur unit president, Janardhana Betta, warned that VHP will launch strong measures of protest if the concerned fail to punish the accused.
