Mangaluru: Bishop launches ‘Sparsha’ initiative by CODP for cancer-free society

Mangaluru, Dec 10: Bishop of Mangalore diocese Dr Peter Paul Saldanha launched ‘Sparsha’, an initiative instilling hope, awareness, detection, treatment and prevention of cancer, by unveiling the logo here at Canara organization for development and Peace (CODP) on Tuesday, December 10.

This is an initiative of Canara organization for development and Peace (CODP) towards cancer free society.



Addressing the gathering, Bishop of Mangalore diocese Dr Peter Paul Saldanha said, "Cancer starts off very slowly then it severely effects our body. We will be alert for a while and tend to forget to get treated. We can take care of our health by consuming proper food, timely exercise and many more.

"We should create hope in each and every one. We need people who create hope. CODP is doing tremendous job in initiating SPARSHA to create awareness on cancer.”

Director of Father Muller charitable institutions, Fr Richard Coelho said, "Cancer can be cured when it is detected at the earliest. I congratulate CODP for taking up the initiative 'Sparsha' which is a need to instill hope and create awareness among people about cancer.”

CODP director Fr Oswald Monterio, district coordinating officer of Wenlock Hospital Sachitananda M L, Caritas state officer of Karnataka Robert D’Souza, Consultant Palliative medicine A J Hospital Dr Naveen Rudolph Rodrigues and SPARSHA ambassador Jessel D’Souza were also present.

Rita D’Souza rendered the vote of thanks. Lenet Deena Gonsalves and Shilpa Raina D’Souza compered the programme.
