Mangaluru, Dec 10: The second additional district and sessions court here, which also is the designated court for Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act cases, on Monday December 9, sentenced a man to five years jail term, after finding that the charge of sexual harassment of minor girl levelled against him was proved. The case relates to sexual abuse of a minor girl living at Baikampady by a youth.
Ateeq Ur Rehamn Lashkar (28), who was a neighbour of the aggrieved girl, is the person who has been ordered to undergo this punishment. The girl lived with her parents near Angaragundi in Bykampady.
Ateeq had taken this six-year-old girl to his home on the evening of June 24, 2018, and sexually exploited her. The girl narrated the turn of events to his father after which he filed complaint in Panambur police station.
The police who probed the case, had arrested the accused. The then police inspector Umesh Kumar, had filed charge sheet. Out of 25 witnesses named in the plaint, 20 were examined.
POCSO designated court's judge B R Pallavi, who conducted hearing, came to the conclusion that the accused is guilty of the charges levelled. The court sentenced the accused to five years simple imprisonment and imposed fine of Rs 5,000.
The court said that out of this fine amount, Rs 3,000 has to be disbursed to the girl. The girl also is eligible to get compensation from the district legal services authority, the judge said.
C Venkataramana Swamy, special public prosecutor, had argued the case on behalf of the prosecution.
