Mangaluru, Dec 9: Spandana Trust organised its annual day and Christmas celebration at Infant Mary’s Convent campus on December 7.
The programme commenced with a prayer song by the animators of the Trust. The self help group members performed various items. The winners of the competitions held for self help group women were awarded with the prizes. The newly elected corporators Vanitha Prasad from Shakthi Nagar SHG who contested and won from Padavu Ward No 21 of Mangaluru corporation and the local corporator Jacintha Vijay Alfred who also is elected from the Falnir Ward for the 5th time were felicitated at the occasion.
Fr. Richard D Souza, director, Canara Communication Centre, delivered the Christmas message and said, “We celebrate Christmas with various symbols like star, Christmas tree and the other unnecessary pomp. But we should see the Christ who was born poor in the manger should get a place in our heart and we should reach out to the poor and the needy at this time of Christmas and this is done by the Spandana Trust in their activities all through the year.”
Roy Castelino, chief guest of the day, the immediate past president of Karnataka Konkani Academy said, “We should build India by giving up communalism, corruption and terrorism from our mind and practice, the humanitarian works in our daily living. We should be human just like the Christ was, then we will have Swatch Bharat. He also said Spadana Trust is striving to build up a Humanitarian Society by their works and activities. “
Sr Marcelline Braggs Superior Infant Mary’s Convent Jeppu in her Presidential address praised the work done by the Trust through the SHGs. Their work is wonderful and asked the Trust personnel to continue the same, for the people who live in vulnerable situation and make the women empowered in various fields.
Victor Vas, co-ordinator, read out the report of the activities, Sr Helen Fernandes, the administrator welcomed the gathering. Theertha K S rendered the vote of thanks. Various SHG’s members performed entertainment programme and staged traditional, folk dances and skits. Thilothama and Kavitha jointly compered the programme.
