Udupi, Dec 9: State revenue minister, R Ashok, noted that pressure of work at Kundapur sub-divisional office, only one in the district, has mounted. "As per the request of MLA Sunil Kumar, we will soon set up another office of the sub-divisional officer (assistant commissioner) in the district," he announced.
He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the new taluk office complex, mini Vidhan Soudha being built at Hebri at a cost of ten crore rupees in the land belonging to the government first grade college there.
The minster also said that the work of carving out Bajagoly revenue division by separating certain villages from Hebri and Ajekar revenue divisions will be conducted soon.
He said that taking serious note of the fact that a big chunk of the widow pension and aged pension reaches the middlemen but not the eligible people, expressed the desire to begin distributing pension by the government through Aadhaar cards for selection of beneficiaries, and sanction orders would be sent by post.
He said that in the past, the tahsildar had powers to issue birth certificates within 15 days of birth. "Henceforth, we will vest with them powers to issue birth certificates permanently," he said.
MLA, Sunil Kumar, who presided, said that Hebri taluk has been created with the combined efforts of many people and it was inaugurated in the presence of Veerappa Moily and Kagodu Thimmappa. He stated that other government offices too will begin functioning from here soon.
Deputy commissioner of the district, G Jagadeesha, said that the people treat revenue department as the government and asked the officials to maintain the No. 1 position the district enjoys because of its people-friendly measures.
On this occasion, various facilities of revenue department were distributed. Minister, R Ashok, and MLA, Sunil Kumar, were felicitated at the programme.
