Mangaluru, Dec 9: The 216th monthly repertory event of Mandd Sobhann was held at Kalaangan on Sunday, December 8. The programme was inaugurated by Sunil Menezes, vice president of Konkani Natak Sabha by ringing the bell. Stany Alvares welcomed the guests by offering flower bouquets to them.
After the stage programme, 'Chor Charandas' drama was presented as the first drama of the ninth team of Kalakul repertory. This drama was sponsored by Michael D'Souza Dubai. This drama was originally written in Hindi by Habib Tanvir and was translated to Konkani by Arunraj Rodrigues, who directed the drama as well. Manish Kalakul was the assistant director of the drama and the music was provided by Praveen Prabhu. Naveen Lobo handled the stage setting.
This drama, which was of Rajastani origin was written by Vijaydaan Deta, was reconstructed in Hindi by Habib Tanvir. This drama was made into a Hindi movie in 1975 that was directed by Shyam Benegal. Renowned actress late Smita Patil played the lead actress in the movie. This drama is translated into various languages including Tulu and Kannada.
First time in the history of the monthly repertory programme of Mandd Sobhann the programme that was supposed to be held on December 1 was cancelled due to rain. The same programme was held on December 8.
