Mysuru, Dec 9: Inner Wheel Club of Mysuru central organized a walkathon for women in saree on Sunday, December 8. More than 450 women took part in the event that started from the Scouts and Guides grounds of Baden Powell Public School in the city.
In fact his was a sort of women's day out, which allowed them to take some leisure from their busy schedules and enjoy themselves with walk, dance, laugh and socialise. The event was held under the dual thems of 'Together We Can' and 'Healthy Women, Happy Homes'. In addition, the event was also part of 'Mission Mamata', of Inner Wheel clubs towards the goal of making India Orphan-free by 2024.
The event was inaugurated by Kamakshi Devi, daughter of last maharaja of the former state of Mysuru, Jayachamaraja Wadiyar. Anuradha Nanda Kumar, district chairman of Inner Wheel, Asha Divyesh, president and secretary Sangeeta Sathish were present.
The walkathon which covered a distance of 2.5 km started around 7 am from the Scouts and Guides Grounds and returned to the same venue. The five winners in the below 50 years age cagtegory who bagged first to fifth place are B M Sindhu, A L Hema, Mallika Rao, Priyadarshini Mahendra and Suman N Gowda respectively. In the above 50 years age category from first to fifth place are V Vijayalakshmi, Lakshmi Iyengar, Sharada, Kala Mohan and Kamala Vijaya Kumar.
Saleena, an 83-year-old elderly person, who took part in the walkathon was given a special prize for the sheer spirit of participation. The programme was sponsored by Tholasi Jewels and co-sponsored by Silk Utsav, Bjimji's, Wellnest, Karnataka Silks, Dazzles, Mahalakshmi Sweets, Travel Parkz, Labelz and Brindavan hospital.
