Chandigarh: TCS to Open 6 Passport Offices Including Mangalore in October

IANS

Chandigarh, Sep 4: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) will open six offices across India in October to provide passport services, a company official has said.

The much delayed 'Passport Seva Project' is expected to take off with this move.

With the launch of this Rs 100 billion project, the processing time for issuance of a passport is expected to be reduced to three days and to one day under the Tatkal (immediate) scheme.

"In the first phase of this project, computerised passport facilitation centres will be opened in Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Ambala, Bangalore, Mangalore and Hubli," TCS global government industry group vice president Tanmoy Chakraborty said on the sidelines of an IT summit here.

"Depending on the response, we have plans to increase the number of such facilitation centres to over 70 all across the country by June 2010," he added.

"The implementation of this project has been delayed due to non availability of disaster recovery sites. But gradually things have been sorted out," stated Chakraborty.

TCS was awarded the project in 2008. The Ministry of External Affairs will monitor its working.

Good news but old news as the news is now appearing for the fifth time. The decision was taken by the previous Manmohan Singh government and TCS was awarded the contract before the elections. It was to have opened in April at Rambhavan complex.

Yet another very good news indeed for Mangalore. Air India Express, new terminal at Bajpe airport, new airport road, quick immigration at airport, all good facilities are provided for Mangalore. Thanks to all those who are responsible. But sad to note that city roads and highways are very very bad to travel. Requesting Authorities please do take care of Mangalore.

That''s a big relief . But I''m a bit skeptical . 3 days for issuing a passport ??? , doesn''t seem realistic with the major hurdle called " Police verification " . Could some one elaborate on the PV point please .

Good News, I believe TCS, private co. will definitely provide the service for new as well as renewal passports more efficiently better then govt. organisation. I would like mention during May month, when I renewed 2 passports of my fly members who have been travelling frequently abroad, it took me 2 months to get new booklet. Whereas during all the press conferences related passport office in Mlore, for the last 1 year govt officials used to say it will be done in 15 days. This is reality of present govt in Karnataka.
