Bengaluru, Dec 7: On Friday December 6, the Supreme Court dismissed bail applications moved by Ganesh Miskin and Amit Baddi, main accused in the murders of well-known thinker Dr M M Kalburgi, and journalist, Gauri Lankeh. These bail applications were referred to the bench comprising Justice N V Ramana, Justice A Bopanna, and Justice Rama Subramaniam. The court which admitted the petition, dismissed them during the preliminary stage itself.
Dr M M Kalburgi, had been killed at his residence at Kalyana Nagar, Dharwad, on August 30, 2015. In the charge sheet filed by the special investigation team formed under the instructions of Supreme Court, six persons were charged with these murders. Ganesh and Amin are among the accused.
Gauri Lankesh was fired at and killed at her home on September 5, 2017. In this case, 18 were named as accused including the above two. Charge sheet was filed in November last year. The high court bench at Dharwad had rejected the bail applications of Ganesh and Amit, and both of them had questioned this rejection in the Supreme Court.
Advocate Vishnuprasad, who appeared on behalf of the accused, argued in defense of his clients, that the freedom of his clients had been impeded because of the custody but the bench rejected this argument.
