Mangaluru, Dec 7: The passenger ship that undertakes trips between the city and Lakshadweep resumed operations on Friday December 6 after remaining suspended because of threats posed by cyclonic storms.
After the meteorological department cleared its movement, the ship, 'Minicoy', sailed off from the wharf at Bunder here. Because of frequent cyclonic storms, severe rainy season and volatile climate, the passenger traffic on this route had been suspended as it posed danger.
During the next two days, six mini ships loaded with materials are set to leave the city for Lakshadweep.
In the past, five to six mini ships, sometimes even ten, used to leave for Lakshadweep from here on any chosen day. However, all of it came to standstill because of cyclones which followed one after the other during the recent months.
These mini ships carry daily use items like coffee, spices, building materials etc routinely. Occasionally, bigger passenger ships too move on this route.
