Belagavi, Dec 6: The polling officer entrusted to polling booth No. 231 in Gokak constituency in the district ran away from the polling booth instead of discharging his duties.

Prakash Nashipudi, teacher of the government primary school at Tenginahala village in Saundatti taluk, was the polling officer to whom the above polling booth was assigned. A day prior to the election, Wednesday December 4, he had reached the mustering centre having no control on himself and swaying uncontrollably. Apparently, he was drunk.

The doctors were asked to check him, after which it was found that he was intoxicated. By the time the doctors subjected him to more tests, Nashipudi fled from there. The doctors mentioned this thing in their report.

District deputy commissioner and electoral officer S B Bommanahalli, ordered the suspension of the teacher from service with immediate effect, pending departmental inquiry.
