Mangaluru, Dec 5: Mangaluru East police station personnel have arrested seven men in a burglary case. The men had allegedly gained illegal entry into the residence of Anitha N Shetty, who resides on the sixth floor of Abhiman Texas apartment on Balmatta-Bendorewell road, between September 8 and September 13, 2019.
The thieves entered the flat through the duct ventilator of the bathroom and opened the locker in the master bedroom using a tool. They have allegedly taken away Rs 65,000 cash, gold ear rings, gold bangles, gold bracelet, gold necklace, diamond necklace, diamond ring, gold watch and gold coins worth Rs 35 lac.
Police personnel arrested the thieves on December 3, near Shivabhag, Mangaluru. The accused are identified as Rakesh Boniface D’Souza (37), resident of Shivabhag; Ashok Bandragar (36) and Ganesh Bapu Parab (37), both residents of Goa; Shahir Mohammed (43), resident of Bendorewell; Janardhan Acharya (41), resident of Kolya; Chandan Acharya (44), resident of Mangaladevi, and Purushotham Acharya (46), resident of Kotekar.
Police personnel have recovered gold and diamond ornaments worth about Rs 34 lac from the seven men.
They have also confiscated a machine used for melting gold, an Alto car, one Hyundai car and a bullet motor cycle used for the thefts.
The theft complaint was registered under No. 129/2019. The arrested accused are charged under sections 454, 457 and 380 of criminal procedure code. Inspector Shantaram, SI Pradeep, Maruthi and police staff participated in the operation.
