Karkala, Dec 5: Author and president of India awardee, teacher Beladi Vittal Shetty is elected president of 16th Karkala taluk Kannada literary conference scheduled at Kedinje Vidya Bodhini aided higher primary school on Sunday December 29. The programme will be held under the leadership of Kannada Sahitya Parishat Udupi district, Karkala taluk unit and Nandalike Abbanadka Friends Club.
Karkala taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat president, Kondalli Prabhaker Shetty said that Beladi Vittal Shetty was elected unanimously in the parishat meeting held on Saturday.
Belady Vittal Shetty was born in Pallatadka village on November 18, 1836 as the son of Beermanna Shetty and Bagi Shetty. He completed primary education at Miyapadav Vidyavardhaka Higher Primary School, Kannada Vidwan and SSLC privately, basic teacher training in Ujire and worked as teacher for forty years from 1955 to 1995 at Belady Higher Primary School. The school was a model school during his term with 350 children, nine teachers and all the basic facilities. The school has repeatedly secured 100% results for 37 years of his term. The school library has more than ten thousand books. He was awarded the best teacher in the state award in 1980, the best teacher award in the country in 1984 and received felicitations in villages, taluk, district and several places in the state. He also hosted Nada Habba with gaiety for the last sixty years.
He is also a well known Yakshagana artiste. He delivered lectures on Akashvani in Tulu and Kannada, served at Beladi post office for 40 years as BPM and received Karnataka service award on account of his service.
He introduced several achievers and run the office of Beladi school for 25 years after Kantavara Kannada Sangha was established. He also took charge of the school and temple after his retirement.
