Moodbidri: 18 ft high horse-mounted statue of Abbakka, unveiling soon

Moodbidri, Dec 5: A beautiful statue of Rani Abbakka, a woman known for her fierce patriotism and gallantry, is coming up at Moodbidri, her birthplace. This statue is the brainchild of Koti Chennaya Jodukere Kambala Samiti president and MLA, Umanath Kotian. The statue, located in front of the Kambala stadium to the right of the dais, will be unveiled on December 21.

Abbakka, who was born in Chowtara Aramane in Moodbdrj and etched out a name for herself in the annals of history as one of the most daredevil women, was married off to Ullal. Therefore, she came to be known as the queen of Ullal.

An organization, Javaner Bedra, had begun its campaign to establish a memorial in honour of Abbakka at her native place, on August 15, 2015. The statue will be dedicated to the society by chief minister Yediyurappa on December 21 during his visit here to take part in the Kambala programe. The statue, created with cement, includes a horse that depicts Abakka in a gallant mood to attack the Britishers. A number of ministers, MLAs and dignitaries will take part in the function, it is gathered.
