Udupi, Dec 5: The Karnataka state government has banned certain harmful methods of fishing. Yet there are complaints of adopting such practices.

The deputy director of the department of fisheries in a press release has stated that the deputy commissioner in a meeting of department officials and fisheries organizations chaired by her has directed to stop all the unscientific and harmful practices of fishing. “The ban includes as per fisheries control act 1986, use of 35 mm square mesh, use of net beyond 20 mm gaps, bull trawl, fishing in lights and non-traditional fishing.

Despite that if banned practices are adopted for fishing, the matter will be considered seriously and strict action will be taken by the fisheries department against such boats under sea fishing control act 1986,” he stated in the press release.
