Udupi, Dec 4: "The lawyers had taken initiative in getting freedom for the country through incessant sacrifices and movements. Now they need to take up cudgels to rid the society of the deep-rooted corruption that has become a bane for the society," said Karnataka Lokayukta, Justice P Vishwanath Shetty.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Advocates' Day programme organised in the premises of district courts complex by district bar council on Tuesday December 3.
"If the laws are implemented properly, democracy will survive. Courts have the onus of protecting the judiciary. The lawyers have the responsibility of upholding justice," the Lokayukta stressed. He noted that the profession of lawyer gets high respect only when the lawyers get enormous knowledge in the subject, and try to get justice to their clients by following principles of good conduct and honesty
Chief district and sessions judge C M Joshi, who presided, noted that the birth anniversary of the first ever President of India and accomplished advocate Babu Rajendra Prasad, is being observed as Advocates' Day in India.
Additional deputy commissioner M Sadashiva Prabhu, who was the chief guest, extended best wishes for the success of the programme. Advocate Rajashekhar P Shyamarao presented the programme. General secretary Reynold Praveen Kumar, proposed vote of thanks.
