Panaji, Dec 3: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Monday warned the youth of the state to come out of their ‘susegad’ (word derived from the Portuguese word sossegado, it is normally mistaken as the relaxed, laid-back attitude towards life that is said to have existed historically in Goa) attitude towards life before people from outside the state capture the local market.
Sawant asked the youth to start their own businesses while speaking after distributing sewing machines to underprivileged.
The CM also encouraged the youth to get back to the traditional business stating that Goans are good artisans and that earlier they would sell different handmade items and now they were only interested in jobs.
“I feel that Goan youth and women should start businesses in order to retain the Goan identity, which otherwise will vanish if the market is captured by outsiders,” he said as quoted by TOI.
