Mangalore, Sep 1: At a time when everyone thought that the monsoon was waning, the rains returned with a vengeance. Since the last three days, good rains have been experienced in most parts of the twin-districts.
The unexpected rains that came after a brief lull brought respite from soaring temperatures but at the same time, created problems for public programmes and auspicious functions. In addition, the users of national highway, who have already been bothered by the bumpy ride created by the innumerable pot holes, faced further trouble in negotiating the treachery stretch between Bantwal and the city and from Suratkal to Kundapur. Water got stored in low lying roads on national highway 48, and several vehicles were found to be struggling to reach the road, after getting stuck in the deep pot holes.
Kota in Udupi district got 11 cms of rain in a day, while the city and Karkala received six cms each. Bhatkal, Karwar etc., got four cms of rain each. The meteorological department has predicted the rains to continue for the next two days.
