Panaji, Aug 31: The private bus owners association went on a day long strike on Monday in protest against the implementation of the High Security Number Plates by the Goa government. According to the transport minister Sudin Dhavlikar there are around 12,000 private buses running on the Goan roads out of which only 3,000 buses remained off the road on Monday during the strike.

But in contrast to the ministers statement, the Bus owners claims that the Bandh was 99% succesful. The Government went on to introduce extra Kadamba buses to cope up with the situation. As a result of the strike there was a increase in the vehicular traffic across the state as most of the people who used to otherwise travel by buses got their vehicles on road as a means of solution to the situation. There was less attendence recorded in Schools, Colleges and Government offices across the state. The strike overall was peaceful except for a few incidents of bus stonning at Bicholim and Chimbel
