Mangaluru, Nov 30: Gold ornaments were stolen from a house at Ganeshi Nagar near Thokottu over bridge on Friday November 29. Strangely, this is the third time in four years that a theft has taken place in this household.

About four years back, about 2.5 sovereigns of gold ornaments had been stolen. A year later, 3.5 sovereigns of gold ornaments were stolen. The Ullal police have failed to find out the culprits behind these two thefts so far, and now, another theft has happened.

Bharati Kottary, employed as 'Asha' scheme worker at Ullal health centre, who came home after duty hours and visiting temple on Friday afternoon, found that thieves had burgled her home during the day.

Bharati's husband is on Sabarimala pilgrimage and her son is living abroad. Her daughter is at Bengaluru. The immediate conclusion is that those who have detailed information about the situation were behind this theft.

The thieves removed a couple of tiles of the roof and entered the house. They sifted through two cupboards inside the house. They used a ladle found in the house to break the lock of the cupboard, and took away gold ornaments valued at around Rs 2.5 lac. The thieves, in the bargain, also thoroughly damaged cement sheets fixed to the roof.

This is the second theft to have happened in this area in two days.
