Bantwal, Aug 29: Lokayukta police arrested two tax personnel working at the office of deputy officer of Value-Added Tax (VAT), located at Kaikamba near B C Road, on charges of corruption on Friday August 28.
The Lokayukta police arrested tax inspector Balakrishna, a resident of Sagar, and clerk Timmappa Naik, a resident of Puttur, here on Friday. Both Balakrishna and Timmappa were caught red- handed when accepting a bribe from Abdul Razak, a resident of Mangalore, who had lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta.
Abdul Razak had applied for Tax Information Network (TIN) for his relative Mohammed Fayaz, a resident of Mudipu in Mangalore, who has a business unit. Both the culprits had demanded a bribe from Abdul Razak to issue the TIN.
Lokayukta ASP Sadanand Varnekar led the raid along with inspector Udaya Naik and other policemen who nabbed the duo while accepting Rs 500 and Rs 700 respectively, from Abdul Razak.
