Muscat, Nov 28: The Mangalurean Konkani wing of Indian Social Club, Muscat, organised the Konkani Utsav on November 22, at the Indian Social Club Multipurpose hall, Darsait. It was a festival of Mangalurean Konkani culture and traditions depicted through various cultural programmes.
A well known compere of the Mangalurean community and renowned Toastmaster Dilip Correa conducted the programme with his unique style and great eloquence.
The programme began with National Anthem of Oman and India being played and thereby the audience payed their respect to their homeland India and residence country Oman.
The executive committee of MKW lead by the convener Clarence Pinto, co-convener Dilip Correa, treasurer John Gonsalves, joint treasurer Prem Colaco, entertainment secretary Mariete Fernandes, ladies wing secretary Jessie Pereira, sports secretary Dolly Gomes, cultural secretary Lavina D’Sa and children wing secretary Naveen Mascarenhas, inaugurated the programme with the traditional lighting of diyas. Clarence Pinto then addressed the audience and welcomed the dignitaries to the programme.
Randolph Mendonca, general manager of Al Tasnim Catering division, an ardent supporter of the Mangalurean community was the chief guest of the function.
Melodious Mangalurean voices of Oman comprising of Inez Lobo, Flavia Castelino, Renita D’Souza , Renita Quadros, JuvanGudinho, Joel Mendonca, Joyal D’Souza, Pradeep D’Souza, Sachin Lobo, Errol Andrade, Ronson D’Souza and Vivian Fernandes marked a prefect beginning to the program with the rendition of a group song ‘Mhujya Mai Gava’ which belongs to the album of late Wilfy Rebimbus.
Manglurchi Motian, dance group consisting of Lovette Rachel Rego, Lanette Riol Rego, Laurette Reselle Rego, Christine Angelin Danthi, Reia Caron Correa, Rochelle Catrina Correa, and Derrick Correa presented a foot tapping traditional dance which was beautifully choreographed by Sandra Correa.
‘Promotion … Makagi tuka’, a comedy skit scripted by Prem Colaco was presented by Helen Sequeira, Naveen Mathias Melwin D’Souza, Joel D’Souza, Eugene Sequeira and John S Secundas.
‘Super Zodi-2019’, was one of the highlights of the programme. It was a fun-filled contest for married Mangalurean couples which was conceptualised and conducted by Lavina D’Sa. The participating couples were quizzed on various aspects of Mangalurean tradition and history. It also had some fun game rounds. This one-of-its-kind of contest, was held for the first time in Oman and was enjoyed by the audience.
The chief guest Randolph Mendonca along with the convener, Clarence Pinto and executive committee of MKW-ISC felicitated the sponsors of the programme. The sponsors list was presented by Jessie Pereira.
‘Kothamrith’, a book of compilation of short stories written by Clarence Pinto, a renowned Konkani writer and a prominent leader of the Mangalurean community in Oman was released by Ida Pinto and Alistair Pinto.
‘Mathen Bohr Pangor Dorina’ a musical duet which is a composition of late Wilfy Rebimbus was very melodiously sung and enacted by Sachin Lobo and Juvan Gudinho.
Helen Sequeira, Lancy Lobo and Walter Mendonca’s skit ‘Devanach Rakazai’ was a beautiful blend of comedy and social message on the loneliness that most of the old age couples are facing now a days.
‘Jivithanth re Monshya’, a meaningful song from late Wilfy Rebimbus album was rendered beautifully by the soulful voices of Pradeep D’Souza, Ronson D’Souza, Joel Mendonca, Joyal Dsouza, Inez Lobo and Flavia Castelino.
All the songs for the Konkani Utsav were coordinated by very talented singer and trainer Ida Pinto.
‘Yemkondanthlo offer’, a comedy skit was enacted by Peter Gantalkatte, Praveen Niddodi, Lawrence D’Souza, Dalton Pasanna, Preema D’Souza, Flavy Nazareth, Wilson Kinnigoli and Noel Kayyar. The skit was written and directed by Peter Gantalkatte.
The breath taking presentation of a beautiful song ‘Haathanth Ghevun Moga Haath’ from Ajith Peter D’Souza’s album was done by Renita D’Souza and Errol Andrade.
John Gonsalves presented the vote of thanks for the people who helped in organizing the programme.
Reshma Dcosta, Hendrita Colaco, Sunitha Furtado, Veena Paes and Vinutha D’Silva from Team Dazzlers sizzled the stage with their hip hop style Konkani dance medley .The dance was choreographed by Stevan Dsouza.
‘Uzwad Chandremacho’, a mellow number from late Wilfy Rebimbus album was beautifully performed by Renita Qadros and Vivian Fernandes.
Loveline Rego kept the music flowing with this unique style of DJ, and Ivan Moras captured the memories of the event with his camera. The hall was beautifully decorated by Lancy Lobo.
Wilson and Reshma Fernandes were crowned as the Super Zodi-2019, Loyd and Mamta D’cunha won the runners up trophy. Ajith and Reshma D’Costa, Juliet Castelino and Alex Noronha, Loyson and Renita D’souza won the consolation prizes. With the announcements of the results of the Super Zodi 2019 the curtains for the show dropped down.
