Bengaluru, Nov 27: The police attached to Puttenahalli station here have succeeded in arresting a gang of three that used to undertake house to house visits in the guise of selling saris, identify gullible houses and steal things from there. The arrests were made on Tuesday November 26. Gold ornaments worth Rs 32.3 lac were confiscated from their possession.

The arrested thieves are Jogmal Purohit (22) and Ram Giri (20) from Rajasthan, and Vishnu Pooja Bai Tarpade (44) from Gujarat. This information was given by deputy commissioner of police (south), Rohini Katoch. The police found that the gang was involved with four incidents of heft in Puttenahalli, two in Subrahmanyapura and one each in Girinagar, Chandra Layiout, Hanumanthanagar and Banashankari police station limits.

The thieves who roamed around the streets by acting like sari sellers, used to identify locked houses and broke into them. If they found that the houses had only one person, they used to speak to them, win their confidence, distract them and commit thefts. It is said that in certain cases, they also won confidence of people living in adjacent houses and mixed sleeping pills in powdered form in their food, before committing thefts. In the recent past, they had earned the confidence of a woman in Puttenahalli, visited her home, won over her trust and then mixed sleeping pills in her food. When she was in slumber, they stole gold ornaments from her house. A case in this connection was registered in Puttenahalli police station.
