Panaji: Meteorologist warns more cyclones in India

Daijiworld Media Network - Panaji (SR)

Panaji, Nov 26: Speaking on 'What happened to the Goan monsoon' organized at Goa Chitra museum at Benaulim on Monday, meteorologist M R Ramesh Kumar warned that more cyclones originating in the Arabian Sea rather than just the Bay of Bengal will cause extreme rainfall events in Goa and India in general.

Explaining about the details of the cyclones, Ramesh Kumar, retired chief scientist of the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), said that the present unusual phenomena is due to increased global warming in the Arabian Sea.

He also said that a recent study at NIO shows that the Arabian Sea and western equatorial Indian Ocean region will warm up. “This is one of the factors which will give rise to more cyclones,” he said, as quoted by TOI.
