Mangaluru: All three political parties to have new district presidents soon

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Nov 26: Both the Congress and the BJP have set into motion the process of appointing new incumbents in place of the current presidents of Dakshina Kannada district committees. Both of these parties have several aspirants.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) had begun the exercise of appointing new heads to ten district committees about two months back. The former secretary of KPCC, Suraj Hegde, had visited Dakshina Kannada district on September 15 and submitted his report after conducting a meeting of leaders from the district. As the city corporation election was announced in between, the process was postponed.

KPCC is likely to announce heir to Harish Kumar, current president of the district Congress committee, soon. Harish Kumar had taken over charge from B Ramanath Rai in 2017. The new incumbent will have a formidable task on hand as the party has been facing reverses one after the other in the district in the recent past. Party sources, therefore, will take a call after a detailed study, sources said.

BJP

The BJP also is searching for a suitable candidate for the post of the district president. The term of the current president, Sanjeeva Matandoor, came to an end during September this year. Because of the bypoll and city corporation elections, the process was delayed. The district president is likely to be chosen by December after the current phase of choosing assembly constituency level presidents is completed.

JD(S)

JD(S) district president's post is also likely to be filled as the current president, Muhammed Kunhi, had resigned citing personal reasons. He has been asked to continue till an alternative arrangement is made, sources claim.
