Beltangady, Aug 25: A merchant was robbed of Rs 40,000 after he was tied up on the night of Monday August 24 near Naravi here.
Twenty-three-year-old Akshayaraj is the owner of Kissan Traders, a dealer in chemical fertilizers, located on the main street of Naravi.
Akshayaraj was on his way home after closing his shop at about 8.30 pm on Monday. His residence is located just a few furlongs from Naravi bus stand at Kuppade.
Akshayaraj’s mother was alarmed when he did not reach home even at 11.30 pm and his mobile was switched off. Meanwhile, his mother heard the barking of dogs near their home and this prompted her to go and investigate.
That is when she found her son blind folded and his mouth covered with masking tape. His hands and legs were tied with ropes. Akshayaraj was taken to Naravi Government Hospital in an unconscious condition and later admitted to a private hospital in Mangalore for further treatment.
Till the evening of Tuesday August 25, Akshayaraj’s condition was yet to stabilize. The manner in which he was tied up and robbed indicates that the crime has been committed by people known to the victim.
The stretch of road to Akshayaraj’s house is a deserted one and thus made it easy for the crime to go unnoticed. Since Aksharayaraj has not been able to give a statement yet, no further details are available with the police.
Venoor sub-inspector Manju is probing the case under the direction of circle inspector Gangi Reddy.
