Mangalore: City Corporation drafting Blue Print for JNNURM Implementation - Palemar

Mangalore, Aug 26: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister J Krishna Palemar said that the City Corporation here, has been asked to prepare a blue print for implementing the Rs 2000 crore development plan for the city under the Jawaharalal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission(JNNURM). He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the two-lane concreting of the road between Kankanady and Morgans Gate in the city on Tuesday August 25.

Palemar added that the state government has hand-picked the city for the implementation of this scheme and the blue print that the City Corporation will prepare, would then be approved by the union government.

Palemar noted that the people of the city are unhappy about the inordinate delays caused in the completion of various roads taken up for concreting. "Contractor Ram Kamat has promised to complete this road, which connects the National Highway and other rural belts, within six months. The people have to keep a watch on the quality of the road works," he said.

City mayor Shankar Bhat, standing committee chairman Vijay Kumar Shetty, corporators, commissioner Dr Vijay Shankar, Father Muller Medical College Hospital dean Dr Sanjeev Rai and administrator Fr Dennis D'Sa were present.

    Once a work is taken-up see that it is finished as early as possible. Why are the work entrusted without doing the preliminary work like shifting of electrical poles, bus stand, water connection, telephone lines, cables, etc. First do this and then let the contractor dug up the road so that least inconvenience is caused to all the concerned. Take the case of bejai kavoor road. Nearly for 2/3 months no work was going on and it has inconvenienced the people to the great extent. Why this kind of half hearted approach. Let it be planned before hand and then be entrusted in an professional manner. Mr. Palemar you are a builder and an educated Minister. For you all this is at a click of a mouse.

    Its nice to hear about such development plans for our city. I would not  want to complain about our dist incharge minister, instead praise them for the efforts they are taking to improve our city. Its true that the works are  going slow but surely the city is getting developed. Are we  supporting for developing nd cleaning up the city? development doesn mean we have good roads and big malls... We need the city to be green and clean also..and for this we the citizens should change.. Why complain? Instead be the change and see a better developed mangalore!

    Complete the present projects at hand, first. We have heard enough and more of JNNURMs from the political class. "Keep a watch"? Sounds funny. Why arent'' the people told to keep a watch on what goes on inside the MCC, DC and Taluk offices! Contractor is well known to you - why all that innocence.
