Udupi: Police question Kerala tourists who stayed overnight at St Mary's Island

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (JD)

Udupi, Nov 24: Four tourists spent a night at St Mary's Island in Malpe as they missed the last boat which ferries tourists to Malpe from Island. The incident happened on the night of Saturday November 23.

The tourists have been identified as Justin, Sheeja, Josh and Harish from Kochi, Kerala. They had come to visit St Mary's Island in the afternoon of November 23. They spent the day in the island and reached another nearby island which was out of anyone's eye sight.

Justin and Sheeja are running a small hotel in Kochi and Josh is working in that hotel. Harish is goal keeper of Kochi football academy’s under-17 team.

The last boat ferries tourists back to Malpe had left the island at 6.45 pm. Boat personnel's had checked the island before leaving and made sure that no one was left behind. But as these 4 tourists from Kerala had gone to a small island close to St Mary's Island, they were not spotted by them. As the water level had increased they were unable to come back to St Mary's Island. They spent the whole night there itself. When they arrived at the boat pick up point of St.Mary's Island in the morning of November 24, boat personnel spotted them and informed the police.

A formal enquiry was made and all the 4 tourists were allowed to go back to their native place.

There is a ban on overnight stay at St Mary's Island.

St Marys island, is strategically located in the vicinity of Mangaluru port trust and Naval base at Karwar.... North Kerala, is the epicenter, for Islamist radicals, in South India..... many have fled, to join ISIS, to wage Jihad !!!! Their state administration, has turned a blind eye, to their anti national activities, Likewise TMC in Bengal, has also been extremely lethargic, to counter radicals, infiltrators from Bangladesh....... the reasons are very obvious !!!!!!! They will not antagonize their vote banks !!!!!!!!!

@Flavian mangalore ,kuwait, one should experience how it is when last boat/Bus has gone ,and left alone on a island ,due to raise of water around.one can doubt many things to honest people.

If they were there with bad intention they wouldnt arrive next day..I know self how it is when I travelled to Goa my last bus had gone at karwar (there was no bridge that time)it was dark,no hopes to reach Goa ,men were eyeing around,no decent hotel around, back of me was only river,.Thank God ,one Taxi came from Goa ,and was returning .With my last hopes and prayed to God to reach safe ,as I was the only passenger in darkness.Thank God after some time some other passengers also joined and reached safe Margoa. He was my last angel .

These people have some Fatichhar looks. Should be investigated thoroughly. Already Mallus are spoiling the beautiful city of Namma Kudla by supplying drugs.
Mallus are not that buddus to overstay in the island by mistake. They must have done this purposely.
Police must investigate. Put them on aeroplane and truth will come out.
Mangalureans should be careful about this neighbouring state people, who are famous in all fraud, cheating and backstabbing things. Those who have lived in the gulf must be knowing this.

They were surveying the islands for future business opportunities and then permanent settlement. Mangalore has been already captured by north keralites, Malabaris, Belthangdy looks like part of Kerala. Next will be St Mary's island on their radar.

I agree the logic in your statement.
But we are known to misuse the freedom. If any untoward incidents happen in the night in St. Mary's island, police will have to tale all the blame.

Overnight stay was banned because of Rave parties involving drugs. We don't want the same things repeating from Goa. Drugs-Rape-Murder etc.

You can put an end to all the crimes by making all the people never leave their homes. Do you want to do that??
