Udupi, Nov 23: “A total 1,500 acres of DC Manna land is to be disbursed to landless Dalit community at the earliest. A committee was formed for this purpose in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada. But the committees are not working now. So the DC has to start distributing land to SC/ST members before April 2020. If not, the community and committee members will hold day-night dharna in front DC office Manipal here,” said Sri Lakshminarayan Nagavar, state convener of Karnataka State Dalita Sangarsha Samiti (KSDSS) at Udupi press club here.
He was speaking at a press meet on Friday, November 22. He said, “Accused treating Dalits badly are getting bail. Counter cases are registered against Dalit. SC/ST members are not getting any opportunity in industrial and educational institutions.
“DSS is organizing many programmes from January 2020 demanding fulfilment of various demands. It will hold awareness campaign ‘Protect Constitution-Protect Democracy’, to be launched from December 6 up to April 4, 2020,” he said.
T Manjunath Giliyaru, advocate, district general convener said, “The population of Dalits is 82,000. As much as 68% of people do not have agriculture land. So let the DC disburse DC manna land among landless families at the earliest.”
Vasudev Mudur, district organizing convener, K C Raju Bettinamane, convener, Sampath Gujjarbettu, taluk convener, Rajshekar Gullady, Brahmavar taluk, Ravindra Sunnari, and Ganesh Nergi were present.
