Mangalore, Aug 25: On Monday August 24, a woman named Vijaya Prabhu (62) living near C V Nayak Hall, Bunts Hostel Road, was relieved of ten sovereigns of gold ornaments by a man, who introduced himself to be a policeman.
In a complaint filed with the Bunder police station here, Prabhu said, she was walking towards the P V S Junction in the city at about 10.30 am on personal work on Monday, when a young man, aged about 25 years, approached her. He introduced himself to be a policeman and chided her for carelessly wearing the gold ornaments, in spite of the announcement he claimed the policemen had been making through the microphones against wearing them. He asked her to place the ornaments in a bag and offered a piece of paper to her for packing the ornaments.
Vijaya Prabhu believed him to be a policeman and started placing the ornaments in the paper. The youth came forward to assist her and after packing the ornaments, he acted as if he was placing them in her vanity bag. After advising her to be doubly careful about the thieves roaming around in the city streets, he went away.
Vijaya Prabhu said, she grew suspicious about the man thereafter and opened her bag to check. She came to know then, that the man had deceived her and robbed her of her ornaments that included a Karimani chain, a gold chain and gold bangles.
