Mhadei issue: 'Goa will move court against Centre for Justice', Sawant

Daijiworld Media Network - Panaji (SR)

Panaji, Nov 21: Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said that Goa will move to court to take legal recourse against the centre if it does not get justice within 15 days on the Mhadei issue.

However, environment minister Prakash Javadekar recently called a meeting with environmentalists and representatives of political parties and sought 15 days to come out with a decision on the Mhadei imbroglio.

Urging activists and political parties to be patient for 15 days, Sawant said, “If in 15 days, things are not in our favour, we will take legal recourse and will appeal before the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The government can also file a case against the environment ministry and we are prepared to do so,” as quoted by TOI.

Sawant also told TOI reporters that he would support the protesters and political parties on the issue if the Centre does not withdraw the October 17 letter, which permits Karnataka to go ahead with its Rs 840-crore project for diversion of water from the Mhadei river basin to the Malaprabha river basin.
