Kaup, Nov 19: A person has been arrested for allegedly forcing a boy to cultivate habit of consuming ganja, and also for influencing him in an effort to make him sell ganja. Ganja found in his possession at the time of arrest was also confiscated.
The arrested man happens to be Muhammed Qasim alias Ubaid (58), residing near Mallaru Kote Road here. As much as 180 grams of ganja was found from his possession. The arrest was made by police sub-inspector, Rajashekhar B Saganuru, on the basis of complaint made by the boy's aggrieved mother.
The police found that Muhammed was carrying ganja that was concealed in a motorbike.
Background
A boy from Kaup Padu village had deserted his home seven days back without informing anyone. After a thorough search, he was found from Muloor on November 16. He said that he had left home with Ubaid from Mallaru village. Ubaid, it is said, developed friendship with the boy, and convinced him to accompany him to Udupi on November 14. From there, he was taken to near Bolje railway track at Udyavar where Ubaid reportedly added ganja to a cigarette and forced the boy to smoke it, the boy later told the family. Ubaid, the family says, was trying to use the boy for selling ganja.
