Puttur, Aug 21: “The educational institutions should focus on imparting quality education that helps in nation building activities. In a disturbing development, it is being noted that the students who qualify to work as doctors, engineers and other professionals, are found to be engaged in terrorist activities. This happens because the education they were given just focussed on their professions without trying to educate them about their responsibilities towards the nation, said MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.
MP Nalin was speaking at the inaugural of the newly built office premises and laying of foundation stone at Uppinangady government pre-university college, near here on Thursday August 21.
The students should develop self confidence and take interest in serving the nation. The educational institutions in Dakshina Kannada (DK) district have the responsibility of imparting quality education that inspires a sense of patriotism and nationalism. Besides, they ought to impart studies on humanity, he urged.
MLA Mallika Prasad in her presidential address, opined that the responsibility lies with everyone concered, to preserve the sanctity in the field of educaiton.
Taluk panchayat president Savitri Shivaram, zilla panchayat member Jayanand, taluk panchayat member Johara Nissar Ahmed, taluk panchayat chief executive officer Y Shivaramaiah, College Golden Jubilee Celebrations Committee president Sanjeev Matandoor, building committee president Raghunat Rai and college principal Venkateshappa, were present at the dais.
Sanjeev Matandoor delivered the introductory address. College vice-principal Divakar Acharya welcomed the gathering, while Pushpavati proposed vote of thanks. Lecturer Jayanti compered the programme.
