Bengaluru, Nov 18: Today is the last day for the filing of nomination papers for the bypoll for the assembly being held on December 5. The bypoll for 15 assembly seats is being held to fill vacant assembly seats created by the resignations of some MLAs from the Congress and the JD(S) and their subsequent disqualification by the assembly speaker.
All the three major political parties are preparing to fight it out and gain an upper hand as leaders of these parties have to prove themselves. The Congress, the JD(S) and the BJP have a keen contest on hand. At the same time, they have also been facing a rebellion from within the party. So far, 96 persons have filed their nomination papers, and on the last day, many important candidates would be entering the race.
Campaigning is already underway in constituencies where rebellion has not surfaced. Party leaders are busy convening caste-wise and region-wise meetings to woo the voters. This bypoll has also witnessed disgruntled people changing loyalties on the scale, having been peeved at the decisions taken by the leadership.
People who have been made in-charge of campaigning have been busy doing their jobs. All the 13 disqualified legislators who have been given ticket by the BJP would be filing their nominations today in the presence of prominent BJP leaders. Former MLAs, Byrathi Basavaraj, S T Somashekhar, MTB Nagaraj, H Vishwanath, Gopallayya, BC Patil, Ramesh Jarkiholi etc will be submitting their nomination papers today
