Beltangady, Aug 20: "If you follow the Indian culture, the chances of contracting infectious diseases get minimized. Those who follow the practice of shaking hands with others, run the risk of spreading infections and getting infected. Those who pay respect by folding their hands, people who meditate and families who have basil plant in their courtyard, do not get infectious diseases." These were the reassuring words uttered by Mangalore Lok Sabha member Nalin Kumar Kateel.
Nalin was speaking, after inaugurating the new Kuvettu gram panchayat building, constructed at a cost of Rs 13 lac at Guruvayanakere on Wednesday August 19. He asked the people not to panic about the possibility of the spread of diseases, as the district administration has taken measures to contain them. He also felt, that the country can progress only if the rulers, officials and the commoners work in tandem.
MLA K Vasant Bangera inaugurated the auditorium of the gram panchayat. Taluk panchayat president Vijaya Kumar presided. Zilla panchayat member Sundar Salian, taluk panchayat member Prabhakar Shetty Uppadka, gram panchayat vice president Sumangala Prabhu, Kuvettu gram panchayat president Poovappa Bhandary and several other dignitaries were present.
