Udupi, Nov 15: A protest was held by Ambedkar Yuva Sene (R), Udupi against the BJP government as well as the educational department on its statement that Ambedkar was not the only one who was responsible for framing the constitution but he was only a compiler in the framing of constitution. The protest was held near Martyrs memorial, Ajjarakadu Udupi on November 14.
Jayan Malpe, senior leader of Dalita Sangha said, “Today if a tea seller has become a prime minister and a newspaper seller has become a president it is only because of Ambedkar’s Indian Constitution. But today, the BJP-led government is trying to change the history and teach modified new history to the future generation. When Nelson Mandela was asked what would he take back from India, he said that he would like to take Indian constitution as it was drafted in such a way that no segregation or discrimination is done to anyone in the constitution, which written by Ambedkar. In the educational department website a report was quoted that Ambedkar was not the only one who drafted the constitution and made fun of our leader Ambedkar and hence a state wide protest will be held against the educational department as well as against the BJP government.”
Amrit Shenoy, who accompanied the Dalits in the protest, said, “Dalits were not allowed to enter inside temple, schools and also hotels in earlier times. It was Ambedkar who fought against this evil social practice and gave us a constitution which never discriminated, segregated or upheld any religion or caste in the constitution. Ambedkar-drafted Indian Constitution is appreciated all over the world. Human rights are being protected and all citizens are provided with equal rights. All the government offices and the roads are being named with RSS activists’ name whereas their contribution was zero in Indian freedom. The government is trying to change the history. Tomorrow’s generation might even ask who Ambedkar was because of the bad precedent of the BJP government.”
Sundar Kapettu, Ganesh Nergi, Harish Malpe, Manjunath Kapettu, Anil Anchan, Raju Bettina Mane, Vassudeva Uddoru, Manjunath Giliyaru, Yuvaraj Puttur, Sanjeev Belloor and the activists of Dalit Sangha participated in the protest and shouted slogans against the BJP government and the educational department.
