Udupi: Slap huge fine if tobacco sale is found near schools, colleges - DC G Jagadeesha

Udupi, Nov 15: "If you come across sales of tobacco products near the campus of schools and colleges, take stringent action and slap huge fines on the violators," said Deputy Commissioner (DC) G Jagadeesha.

Jagadeesha was speaking at the trimester meeting of Tobacco control unit and district tobacco prohibition cell that was held at the auditorium of DC office at Rajatadri on Thursday, November 14.

The DC also instructed the officers of the education department to conduct inspection and submit report within one week that tobacco products are not sold in and around the campus of any secondary schools and PU Colleges in the district. He also said that it is necessary to take strict action against the violators in order to completely ban the sale and use of tobacco products in the prohibited areas and implement the act.

Zilla panchayat CEO Preeti Gehlot, additional DC Sadashiva Prabhu, district surgeon Dr Madhusudhan Nayak, medical officer of Dr Baliga hospital, Dr B V Bhandary, officer of various department and others were present.

    In manipal it is openly sold in front of colleges, schools and hospitals in fact the road which leads to your office a lot of shops sells tobacco products
